Windward Performance is designing and building a high performance ultralight
(FAR Part 103 legal) sailplane called the Sparrowhawk. By meeting
the FAR 103 requirements, the Sparrowhawk will be sold as a complete, flying
aircraft and not as a kit. In addition, the airplane will be free
from the regulatory hassles currently suffered by most imported gliders.
Although the Sparrowhawk will be a legal ultralight, it is being designed
and built to be flown in all the same conditions as existing sailplanes.
It will cruise between thermals at speeds much greater than existing light
sailplanes with more altitude retention. It will climb exceptionally
well with its low sink rate and tight turning radius afforded by its low
stall speed and small size. Perhaps most significantly, the small
all-carbon airframe will give quick and nimble handling. Buy one
